A daily news is a newspaper published every day that contains current events and information about various topics. These papers often include opinions and editorials that offer different perspectives on issues. They are usually a mix of local and international news that affects people in a variety of ways. They can be found in print and online.
The Daily News is a New York City newspaper that has been in publication since 1919. The paper considers itself to be “New York’s Hometown Newspaper.” Over the years, it has been known for zesty headlines—perhaps most notably in 1975 when its front page proclaimed, “Ford to City: Drop Dead!”—city coverage and star columnists that have included Jimmy Breslin and Pete Hamill. In addition, the paper has a long history of publishing television and radio shows.
In recent decades, the Daily News has struggled to keep pace with changes in news consumption and advertising. It has seen its circulation and ad revenue decline as readers move to the web, while also fighting off a formidable hometown tabloid rival, the News Corp-owned New York Post. During its time under publisher Mort Zuckerman, the Daily News won several Pulitzer Prizes, including one this year in collaboration with ProPublica that uncovered how government agencies used an obscure law to evict hundreds of New Yorkers from their homes.
On April 25, 2019, it was announced that the Daily News would be acquired by Tronc, which was formed in 2023 from Tribune Co. The deal gives Tronc a presence in the New York market, as well as a flagship newspaper with an estimated readership of 25 million. It will also assume the newspaper’s operational and pension liabilities, as well as its Jersey City printing plant.
The Yale Daily News is a student-run newspaper that publishes each weekday when the university is in session. It is the oldest college daily in the United States and was founded on January 28, 1878. Many of its past students have gone on to prominent careers in journalism and public life. It is known for its distinctive coverage of issues that are important to the Yale community and for its annual special issue celebrating Yale’s Indigenous, Black, Latine and Asian American communities.
